Aluminum accumulation and tolerance in four Amaranthus species

چکیده
About one-third of the earth’s land area consists acidic soils. The rhizotoxic Al3+ is one primary constraints associated with low soil pH. Various Amaranthus species are important components weed flora in tea plantations on acid soils north Iran. In this study, four (A. blitoides, A. retroflexus, cruentus, and tricolor) were grown under hydroponic conditions total Al concentrations 0, 20, 50, 200, 400 µM corresponding to free activity 3.75, 11.97, 60.34, 125 µM, respectively. Low (20, or 200 µM) stimulated plant growth, tricolor demonstrated highest improvement shoot growth (93%), whereas retroflexus exhibited greatest root biomass (367%), length (173%), aproot (32%). Although response varied among species, all able accumulate leaves above critical level considered for hyperaccumulation (1 mg g–1 DW). Our findings revealed accumulation first time at genus family levels, suggesting that these suitable restoration revegetation acid-eroded

Aluminum exclusion and aluminum tolerance in woody plants
The aluminum (Al) cation Al(3) (+) is highly rhizotoxic and is a major stress factor to plants on acid soils, which cover large areas of tropical and boreal regions. Many woody plant species are native to acid soils and are well adapted to high Al(3) (+) conditions. In tropical regions, both woody Al accumulator and non-Al accumulator plants occur, whereas in boreal regions woody plants are non...
متن کاملRole of exudation of organic acids and phosphate in aluminum tolerance of four tropical woody species.
Responses of Melaleuca leucadendra (L.) L., Melaleuca cajuputi Powell, Acacia auriculiformis A. Cunn. ex Benth. and Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. to aluminum (Al) toxicity at low pH are poorly understood. We investigated effects of low pH and exudation of ligands by roots on Al tolerance of these species. Seedlings were grown hydroponically in nutrient solutions at pH 4.2 or 3.5 containing Al...
متن کاملAluminum Toxicity and Tolerance in Plants.
Aluminum (Al) is the most abundant metal in the earths crust, comprising about 7% of its mass. Since many plant species are sensitive to micromolar concentrations of Al, the potential for soils to be A1 toxic is considerable. Fortunately, most of the A1 is bound by ligands or occurs in other nonphytotoxic forms such as aluminosilicates and precipitates. However, solubilization of this A1 is enh...
متن کاملAcute Toxicity and Accumulation of Iron, Manganese and, Aluminum in Caspian Kutum Fish (Rutilus kutum)
Background: Iron, manganese, and aluminum are three abundant metals on earth and their concentrations have increased in aquatic environments as a result of natural and industrial activities. This study was undertaken to report the median acute toxicity (LC50) and accumulation of the sub-lethal concentration (10% 96-h LC50) of iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) and aluminum (Al) in kutum (Rutilus kutum) ...
متن کاملDevelopment of a novel aluminum tolerance phenotyping platform used for comparisons of cereal aluminum tolerance and investigations into rice aluminum tolerance mechanisms.
The genetic and physiological mechanisms of aluminum (Al) tolerance have been well studied in certain cereal crops, and Al tolerance genes have been identified in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) and wheat (Triticum aestivum). Rice (Oryza sativa) has been reported to be highly Al tolerant; however, a direct comparison of rice and other cereals has not been reported, and the mechanisms of rice Al toler...
